On our recent motorbike trip from Chiang Mai to the Burmese border we stopped off in Chiang Rai and visited the Black House (Baan Si Dum in Thai), the estate of Thai artist Thawan Duchanee.
The complex is set in peaceful gardens and features many contemporary buildings influenced by traditional Thai styles, almost all in black. Everything is made from wood and animal skulls and bones are found everywhere, often used to make the furniture.
It was an incredible place with lots to explore and we’ll be writing a full article about it soon, but here’s a photo of Simon in one of the church-like buildings. It seemed like the perfect setting for a rock star photo shoot.
